Formal appointment marks the nonprofit’s first leadership transition in 12 years and signals continued momentum in interoperability and data-driven diabetes innovation.

PALO ALTO, Calif.: Tidepool, the nonprofit leader advancing interoperability in diabetes technology, today announced the formal appointment of Brandon Arbiter as Chief Executive Officer. Arbiter, a Tidepool co-founder who has served as acting CEO since April 2025, previously held the role of Vice President of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships. He succeeds Howard Look, who stepped down earlier this year to focus on his health.

The appointment reflects Tidepool’s continued growth and its expanding role as a trusted platform partner for innovation across the diabetes ecosystem. The announcement also reaffirms Tidepool’s founding belief that open data and community collaboration can fundamentally improve the lives of people living with diabetes.

Since his diagnosis with type 1 diabetes in 2011, Arbiter has combined personal insight with product leadership to shape Tidepool’s strategy and expand its reach across the diabetes community. He has been a driving force behind the Tidepool Data Platform and Tidepool Loop-a groundbreaking, community-designed automated insulin-delivery solution that received FDA clearance. That achievement led to the first commercial deployment of a Tidepool Loop–derived product through Sequel’s twiist AID System powered by Tidepool, paving the way for future partner-driven products.
