Zerynth retrofitted 20 year old production machines to monitor, and cut, their energy costs

Remote monitoring solutions help manufacturing in modernizing their production facilities. Internet of Things components are, in this perspective, an useful tool to increase productivity. But there is not enough knowledge on what to do, which kind of modernization options are within reach (and financially viable), how to implement remote monitoring products and services. Especially small and medium manufacturing companies - and there are a lot of them in Italy - need to do, as it is often said, more with less.
"This is why our versatile industrial IoT platform allows for an easy digital transformation, in a fast and secure way", says Zerynth. The Italian company recently completed a remote monitoring project with Armal SpA, aiming at reducing their energy consumption.
The biggest energy consumption issue was caused by Armal's legacy production machinery, explains Zerynth. "Moreover, after our initial review of their production plant, we saw that another problem Armal had was that it used a tremendous amount of energy on lighting and cooling systems in the plant. So, we decided to take that into account for the final solution", the company explains.
Armal's production machinery became connected using the Zerynth IoT Platform. Data gathered in production is now used to present four digital dashboards that offer "information about the status of their machines, the amount of energy they were consuming, and comparisons of current data and historical data". Connected devices and their data are managed by Zerynth Device Manager.
The project, Zerynth explains, let Armal "digitize 20 year old production machines that were still in good condition: they just needed to be retrofitted". The real-time monitoring of power consumption is now applied also to lighting and refrigeration systems, cutting energy costs in the production area by 30%.
