SÃO PAULO & AMSTERDAM: #AIEcosystems--Identity verification systems across Latin America’s digital banking ecosystems are entering a structural risk phase as generative AI enables synthetic identities to be created faster than verification infrastructure can adapt, according to a new threat intelligence report released by DuckDuckGoose.
The report, When Identity Becomes Generatable, analyzes generative AI and finds that identity creation has shifted from manipulation toward real-time synthetic human generation capable of passing onboarding and authentication systems.
In Q4 2025 alone, more than 55 synthetic media generators were released - roughly one every 1.6 days. Since early 2024, image-to-video generation has expanded by over 1,000%, eroding assumptions underlying biometric and liveness verification. Monitoring identified nearly 868,000 fine-tuned synthetic variants created monthly across open AI ecosystems, many optimized to bypass onboarding and authentication systems.
Each variant introduces unfamiliar identity characteristics, creating exposure windows where verification systems encounter synthetic identities they have never seen.
This acceleration is visible across Brazil and Latin America, where PIX-driven real-time payments, large-scale remote onboarding, and rapid neobank growth have made identity verification reliability a critical financial control. Brazilian institutions recorded R$10.1 billion in banking fraud losses in 2024, while fraud execution timelines increasingly compress toward minutes rather than days.
The report concludes the primary threat is no longer manipulated media but synthetic presence: AI-generated humans interacting with verification systems in real time.
Traditional KYC and liveness controls operate as designed, but were not architected for continuously generated identities adapting faster than detection models evolve.
As generator release velocity increases, verification environments face a persistent detection gap rather than isolated vulnerabilities, shifting identity assurance from periodic upgrades toward continuously adaptive infrastructure.
“Identity verification was built on the assumption that visual presence implied a real person,” said Parya Lotfi, CEO of DuckDuckGoose. “Generative AI removes that assumption. Identity has become generatable. Trust must be established at the moment of identity creation, not after fraud occurs. That transition is already underway across Latin America’s digital financial systems.”
For identity platforms operating in digital economies such as Brazil, the report indicates that synthetic media detection is transitioning from advanced capability to required infrastructure control alongside document verification and liveness.
