AI-native platform for higher education unifies dispatch, incident response, and regulatory reporting - so compliance falls out of the operational work
TORONTO: #AI--Legio, the AI-native safety and security operations platform purpose-built for higher education, today announced a $5 million seed investment from Klass Capital. The funding will accelerate product development and Legio's engagement with design partners across college and university public safety departments - among the most operationally complex and heavily regulated environments in security.
Legio is being built as the operational backbone campus safety teams run their day on - dispatch, incident response, case work, patrols, and asset management in one system of record. Because the work happens inside Legio, the reports and compliance artifacts these departments owe - from the daily crime log to the Annual Security Report - assemble from live operational data, with the safety team in the loop at every step.
Legio was founded by Darren Hill (CEO), Mike Wertman, and Joe Crampton - operators with deep experience across campus public safety and enterprise security software.
"Campus public safety has been running on platforms built for generic enterprise and bolted on for higher education. Teams carry heavy reporting obligations on top of round-the-clock operations, and the work of documenting the shift crowds out the work of protecting the campus. We're rebuilding the category from the ground up."
- Darren Hill, Co-Founder & CEO, Legio
"This is the kind of vertical software category we look for - deep domain complexity, regulatory tailwinds, and an incumbent stack a decade behind. Darren, Mike, and Joe bring the domain expertise to rebuild it, and their AI-native architecture is the right foundation for a market this overdue for change."
- Daniel Klass, Managing Partner, Klass Capital
The seed round will fund product development, engineering hires, and Legio's design partner program across higher education.
