Adding to the more than 50 open hardware platforms already supported, the addition of the Broadcom Qumran3 family gives fiber, cable, and mobile operators a unified network operating environment across Access, Aggregation, Transport and Core Network domains, simplifying operations and reducing operational costs.

Enterprise AI On Ramps, cloud connectivity, and Data Center Interconnect, combined with the ever-faster broadband access speeds supported by XGS-PON, 50G-PON, DOCSIS 4.0 and 5G put capacity pressure across all network domains, from Access to the Core.

Service Providers must add capacity without increasing complexity while also working within tight power and rack-space constraint limits. Unfortunately, traditional network upgrade approaches involve deployment of an overlay of specialized equipment with diverse management and automation frameworks, which are costly, create operational complexity, and add pressure on limited power and physical space budgets.

OcNOS running on the Qumran3 family addresses those needs in the most elegant and operationally efficient way, with a single Network Operating System deployable across all network domains and supporting not only a variety of hardware configurations from Open Networking Hardware vendors (UfiSpace, Edgecore Networks, and others), but also allowing the Service Provider to use the optical components and management and automation frameworks of their choice uniformly across their networks.

Service Providers deploying OcNOS on the Qumran3-based hardware platforms are able to scale in three distinct ways:

• Scale Access and Aggregation without expanding physical footprint: OcNOS offers the comprehensive service and transport support functions Service Providers need at the edge of the network for customer connectivity. Examples of this include: MEF 3.0 certified E-Line and E-LAN services, hierarchical QoS, G.8275.1 timing, and SR-MPLS. Combined with the compact Qumran3U and Qumran3A-based platforms, Service Providers can aggregate access and mobile traffic into high port density and switching capacity small form factor hardware. Some key attributes of Qumran3 based platforms in Access and Aggregation include: High speed Ethernet Connectivity, deep buffering, SyncE and IEEE 1588v2 timing, and hardware accelerated MACsec and IPSec on every port.
• Scale core and provider edge networks: The Qumran3D delivers up to 25.6 Tb/s of switching capacity per device on a single 5nm chip, with Ethernet port rates from 100 Gb/s to 800 Gb/s, massive on-chip forwarding databases, and native line-rate MACsec encryption on all ports as required in high-density aggregation, provider edge, core, peering, and Data Center Interconnect deployments. The resulting system density allows operators to consolidate network capacity into fewer systems while reducing rack space, power consumption, and the number of physical interconnects required for a given traffic load.
• Scale site interconnect capabilities: OcNOS integrates management and telemetry capabilities for coherent optics, which enable operators to monitor performance and integrate optical information into their existing network operations, eliminating the need for dedicated optical transport equipment. Qumran3D-based hardware platforms extend these capabilities with support for 800ZR+ coherent optics, ideal for Scale Across Data Center Interconnect and IPoDWDM Transport solutions.

The OcNOS network operating system is common across all network domains, offering a unified management and automation framework across all supported hardware platforms from multiple open networking vendors. This enables operators to select hardware according to port density, capacity, buffering, security, timing, and form-factor requirements without having to adopt different network operating systems for each network domain.
