Automated drug development platform recognized among the world's most groundbreaking AI startups by Greenfield Partners at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026
WALTHAM, Mass.: Dash Bio, the company building the infrastructure that drug development needs for the next generation of medicines, today announced it has been named to the AI Disruptors 60 Class of 2026. The annual list recognizes 60 of the world's most groundbreaking AI startups. Curated by Greenfield Partners, the Class of 2026 is unveiled today on stage at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 in San Francisco and is presented on the Nasdaq MarketSite tower in Times Square.
The bottleneck in drug development has moved. AI has made it faster and cheaper to find a candidate, but proving one is safe and effective still depends on slow and inefficient clinical processes, including manual lab work. Taking a single drug from discovery to launch now costs an average of $2.6 billion, according to PhRMA, and roughly nine in ten candidates that enter clinical trials never reach approval. Nearly every stage of that process, from sample analysis to trial operations, still runs on manual labor, paper records, and cost-plus contracts. A faster and larger pipeline of candidates runs into the same slow and limited clinical capacity.
Dash is building the platform to remove that bottleneck. Today the company's 24,000-square-foot GLP laboratory in Waltham pairs robotics with a proprietary laboratory operating system and productized workflows for bioanalysis, the critical-path testing that turns clinical samples into data, covering ELISA, MSD, qPCR, ddPCR, LC-MS, and other assays. Per-sample prices are published at dash.bio/pricing, timelines are committed up front, and there are no hidden fees. Preclinical results come back in days rather than months, with digital traceability behind every data point. Because the lab is built on software and automation, not manual labor, Dash produces deep structured data which gives sponsors far more insight into results, all on timelines matching AI drug discovery and related high-throughput methods.
“Drug development was never built as infrastructure. Today it is an outsourced services business, priced by the hour and run by hand, and that model is now the slowest part of the industry,” said Dave Johnson, Co-founder and CEO of Dash Bio. “AI can generate candidates faster than the system can test them. Someone has to build the other half: the physical infrastructure that turns a model’s prediction into a measured result, at the speed and predictability the rest of technology takes for granted. That is what we are building, starting with the lab.”
Dash was founded in 2024 by Dave Johnson, Ander Tallett, and Ely Porter. Dave Johnson previously served as Chief Data and AI Officer at Moderna. The company launched commercially in July 2025 and has since signed over 30 customers, from early stage biotechs to four top-15 global pharmaceutical companies. In August 2026, Dash raised a $30 million Series A led by Oak HC/FT, with participation from Freestyle Capital and Swift Ventures, bringing total funding to $47.5 million.
