Recognized in the Health & Wellness Category, LUCID 2.0 aims to make early cancer detection simpler, non-invasive, and more accessible

NEW YORK: SpotitEarly, a multi-cancer early detection startup that uses AI and trained canines to identify cancer odor signatures in breath samples, today announced that LUCID 2.0, its Bio-AI Hybrid breath platform, has been named to TIME’s annual list of the Best Inventions of 2026, which features 300 extraordinary innovations changing our lives.

Selected in TIME’s Health & Wellness category, LUCID 2.0 stood out for its unique ability to combine the powerful sense of smell of trained canines with AI to screen for multiple cancers from a single breath sample collected at home in just three minutes, offering a non-invasive approach to cancer screening that will make early detection more accessible. In a study of nearly 1,400 participants published in Scientific Reports, LUCID 2.0 demonstrated 93.9% sensitivity and 94.3% specificity across four major cancer types, including 94.8% sensitivity for early-stage cancers.

“Some of the most powerful innovations come from rethinking what's possible with the tools nature has already given us,” said Shlomi Madar, CEO of SpotitEarly. “As we continue to clinically validate our technology and prepare for our commercial launch next year, we're honored that TIME has recognized the potential of our approach to early diagnosis. This recognition is also a testament to the incredible work of our team and research partners, whose dedication and collaboration are bringing us closer to making early cancer detection a reality for more patients and families.”

To compile this year's list, TIME solicited nominations from TIME editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields - such as health care and AI. TIME then evaluated each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact. See the full list here: ti.me/best-inventions

About SpotitEarly

SpotitEarly is developing a non-invasive, breath-based screening test intended to support earlier detection across multiple cancer types. The test is built on the company’s proprietary Bio-AI Hybrid platform, LUCID 2.0, which combines machine learning with trained canine olfaction and sensor-based monitoring of canine behavioral and physiological signals to produce consistent, data-driven screening results. Collection is designed to be simple - a face-mask kit that captures a breath sample. Subject to regulatory approval, SpotitEarly aims to improve access to cancer screening, raise early-detection rates, and improve survival outcomes.
