Restaurant management platform marks a decade of growth, serving 10,000 restaurants and transforming back-office operations

ARLINGTON, Va.: MarginEdge, the leading restaurant management and bill payment platform, marks its 10-year anniversary with two major milestones – a decade of simplifying back-office operations and the onboarding of its 10,000th restaurant customer.

The company was founded in response to the everyday challenges co-founders Bo Davis and Roy Phillips experienced while owning and operating restaurants. Together with co-founder Brian Mills, they set out to simplify and streamline the most tedious parts of restaurant operations. By automating time-consuming tasks like invoice processing and inventory tracking, MarginEdge gives operators and their accountants a streamlined way to manage costs and access real-time visibility into their profitability — critical in an industry known for its razor-thin margins.

“The growth that we’ve achieved, and continue to maintain, over the last 10 years as a company is just incredible,” said Bo Davis, Co-Founder and CEO of MarginEdge. “We started this company because we lived the day-to-day of running restaurants and have an intimate understanding of how difficult, but rewarding, it is. Our team has walked in those shoes – over 70% of our 300+ stateside team have direct hospitality experience – and that gives us a level of deep knowledge that informs everything we do for our customers. From launching new features to acquiring new technologies that lead to significant increases in efficiency, every offering we provide comes directly from understanding what our customers need most.”

Since launching in 2015, MarginEdge has grown from a three-person startup into one of the most trusted names in restaurant technology. The company has processed over 22 million invoices representing $15 billion in industry spend, and now facilitates more than $1 billion in restaurant payments annually through its Bill Pay platform. Additionally, MarginEdge acquired the beverage inventory management platform Freepour in 2024 and has since expanded into the Canadian market, furthering its mission to simplify restaurant operations for operators across North America.

As it scales, MarginEdge prides itself on being a people-first organization, having achieved recognition on top employer lists including Forbes’ Best Startup Employers, The Washington Post’s Top Workplaces list and the Washington Business Journal’s Best Places to Work Awards. The company’s founding team remains intact, and its hospitality-centric values continue to shape its culture. MarginEdge’s executive leadership team is now 50 percent female, with recent additions like CFO Emma Whelan, and its employee base has grown to more than 1,100 employees across seven countries.

MarginEdge serves the entire spectrum of the restaurant industry – from leading multi-unit brands like New York-based Maman to single-unit operators, Michelin-starred fine dining establishments like Atelier Crenn and private equity-backed and publicly traded restaurant groups. Every operator faces unique challenges, but shares a common need for better visibility into their costs and more time to focus on the guest experience. MarginEdge eliminates manual processes and brings real-time clarity to back-office operations.

“My restaurants have been using MarginEdge for almost 10 years now and I’m not sure we’d be as efficient without it,” said Greg Caston, Operating Partner of Washington D.C. restaurant, The Point. “What stands out to me about the MarginEdge team, and what drove me to ultimately invest in this company early on, is that they understand the restaurant industry inside and out. From the real-time budgeting tool to inventory management, down to the recipe cards – everything is purpose-built for restaurant operators by people who have the experience of what’s actually important.”

As MarginEdge looks to the next decade and beyond, it remains dedicated to its mission – creating a world where restaurant operators can focus on the business they love and getting them out of the back office and back onto the floor.
