Capella is approved to contract with the US DoD for missions that include managing Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI)

SAN FRANCISCO: Capella Space Corp., an American space tech company with data and satellite solutions for government and commercial applications, today announced that the company achieved Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2, authorizing Capella to store, process and transmit US government Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (NASDAQ: KTOS) served as a Third-Party Assessor Organization (C3PAO), validating Capella’s ability to securely manage CUI using the company’s existing cybersecurity infrastructure.

“This achievement reflects Capella’s commitment to protecting customer information through an aerospace industry-leading cybersecurity program,” said Frank Backes, CEO of Capella Space. “It affirms our ability to offer a reliable and secure platform not only for US government missions, but also to allied nations and our partners abroad.”

The CMMC is a US Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity program “designed to enforce the protection of sensitive unclassified information shared by the Department with its contractors,” according to the DoD Chief Information Officer (CIO) website. Contractors handling sensitive, unclassified DoD information must achieve a specific CMMC level as a condition of contract awards. Capella’s Level 2 certification verifies the company’s compliance with 110 NIST SP 800-171 Revision 2 security requirements.

“Capella’s preparation reflected a deep commitment to security and compliance. Achieving a CMMC Certificate of Status, Capella demonstrated that they prioritize end-to-end security and the secure handling of customer information across their entire platform,” said Cole French, Director of Cybersecurity Services and CMMC Lead at Kratos.

Capella also worked with Summit7, a security and compliance solutions provider, for IT support to implement the program.

“Summit 7 is thrilled to see Capella Space successfully complete their CMMC L2 for record assessment. Capella is a leader in space tech and has made the investment in securing their environment to ensure the security of their valuable intellectual property as well as the government data that they handle in execution of DoD and international partner missions. We are excited that our CMMC L2 Implementation for Office 365 GCC High and Azure Government as well as our Managed IT support through Guardian for M365 and Azure could be a part of this incredibly successful assessment,” said Scott Edwards, CEO of Summit7.
