IRVINE, Calif.: Appriss Retail, a leading provider of solutions designed to combat returns and claims fraud while safeguarding loyal customers, announced today that Vishal Patel has been promoted to chief product and technology officer (CPTO). The news comes as Appriss Retail positions itself for accelerated growth and product innovation, creating more value for its customers.
Patel will lead Appriss Retail’s product, engineering, infrastructure, cloud engineering, operations, and support teams in his new role as CPTO. The newly created role reflects the company’s strategic move to unify product and technology under a single leader to foster faster innovation, stronger cross-functional alignment, and a more cohesive roadmap for the future.
“Vishal brings deep technical expertise paired with strong product vision,” said Michael Osborne, CEO, Appriss Retail. “I am confident in his ability to accelerate growth and market leadership by steering his teams to tightly align technology and product strategy, accelerating delivery of impactful, AI-driven solutions that protect profits while preserving the customer experience.”
With over a decade of experience in software engineering, machine learning, and cloud infrastructure, Patel has been the primary visionary architect of the company’s platform, which now supports 40% of all U.S. retail transactions. He has held many roles at Appriss Retail, most recently chief technology officer, helping shape the future of Appriss Retail’s AI and machine learning capabilities and advancing its fraud and abuse detection solutions, which are trusted by 60 of the nation’s top 100 retailers. Patel has built and led a global team of over 100 engineers, data scientists, cloud experts, and support professionals, driving high-impact technology deployments across the retail landscape.
“Retail fraud is changing rapidly — fueled by shifting shopper behavior, complex systems, and a surge in returns and claims,” said Patel. “I’m excited to step into this new role and continue to develop innovative solutions that help retailers detect and prevent fraud and abuse. Whether it happens in-store, online, or through the call center; whether it’s consumer-driven or internal; whether it’s at checkout, in fulfilment, or during returns — our AI-powered platform is uniquely positioned to protect every part of the customer journey, enabling a seamless and better experience for shoppers.”
Patel holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of California, Irvine, where his research focused on machine learning and data integration. He has published over a dozen peer-reviewed papers, frequently presents at conferences, and teaches courses in data science and deep learning.
