Free, open access to the company’s AI-ready analytics platform unlocks next-generation intelligence for time-series and real-time workloads.

NEW YORK: KX, a global leader in real-time, time-series and AI-driven analytics, today announced the release of KDB-X Community Edition, a free version of the high-performance unified data and analytics engine, KDB-X. Co-built with developers and engineered for modern lakehouse architectures, the Edition provides an open, modular framework with advanced libraries for high-volume time-series and market data analysis. With intuitive interfaces and streamlined installation, it gives every developer a free, accessible foundation for building time-aware AI-driven applications.

“We didn’t just build KDB-X for developers; we built it with them. KDB-X was shaped by some of the smartest data engineers and quants from leading capital markets firms with the goal of delivering the most powerful and accessible programmable data infrastructure for modern, distributed systems,” said Michael Gilfix, Chief Product and Engineering Officer, KX. “We’ve taken the high-performance engine that defines KX and made it accessible through the tools developers use, so they can build the next generation of intelligent, time-aware applications. With KDB-X Community Edition, developers can now experience the same real-time performance delivered to the world’s most demanding systems.”

KDB-X delivers a unified environment for streaming, batch and historical data with Python, SQL and q support in one platform. Built on the powerful foundation of kdb+, KDB-X ensures ultra-low latency and scalability for real-time analytics, while AI-ready vector search enables unified insight across structured and unstructured data. Developers benefit from backward compatibility, modular extensibility, and flexible deployment across cloud or on-prem environments.

KDB-X also delivers industry-leading throughput for time-series workloads. kdb+ 4.1, the underlying technology in KDB-X, recently broke another industry record in the STAC-M3™ benchmark for time-series analytics. Tested on Supermicro servers with Micron® memory and Intel® processors, it delivered unprecedented performance across 19 of 24 STAC-M3 Kanaga mean-response-time benchmarks, demonstrating up to 2.7x faster throughput than competing architectures.

Since its public preview, KDB-X Community Edition has gained rapid traction within the developer community, reflecting the demand for high-performance accessible analytics tools, and has already been utilized to build trade execution strategies, real-time asset monitoring systems, and predictive maintenance platforms.

“It has been great getting involved in the development of KDB-X as it gave me the opportunity to see what is being worked on, add ideas and suggestions and have the chance to potentially shape the product,” said Alexander Unterrainer, KXpert and founder of DefconQ, a kdb/q education blog. “It has also been great to get insights and ideas from KDB developers outside KX.”

KX continues to deliver regular feature drops that expand the KDB-X ecosystem, including:

  • A modular framework for organizing, sharing, and reusing code
  • Enhanced AI and vector libraries for semantic and time-series similarity search
  • Integration with KX Dashboards for real-time visualization and exploration
  • Upcoming GPU acceleration for compute-intensive analytics
  • Future agentic and natural-language interfaces that enable AI agents to interact with KDB-X for autonomous, time-aware reasoning

The KDB-X Community Edition is ready for adoption today, enabling developers to test, experiment with and build high-performance, data-intensive applications with exclusive access to continuous feature updates, all at no cost. General commercial availability of KDB-X is planned for early 2026.

Developers can download the KDB-X Community Edition and get started through the KX Developer Center, where they can also access tutorials, documentation, engage with the developer community, and take courses through the KX Academy.
