A bold new blueprint for responsible innovation and housing affordability debuts at OPTECH 2025
LAS VEGAS: At OPTECH 2025, the premier event for innovation in rental housing operations, technology, marketing, and data, the Real Estate Technology and Transformation Center (RETTC) released a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance Framework for rental housing and technology partners. This first-of-its-kind framework was developed by RETTC’s AI Working Group, comprised of a diverse group of housing providers and technology innovators and is a bold new blueprint for responsible innovation and housing affordability.
AI and emerging technologies are driving solutions to the nation’s long-standing housing challenges, including affordability, access, and resident experience, and this framework is designed to promote responsible innovation, protect consumers, and uphold critical pillars like the Fair Housing Act, Fair Credit Reporting Act and the myriad state and local housing laws that guide rental housing in communities across the country.
“We can’t solve the nation’s housing challenges with yesterday’s tools,” said Kevin Donnelly, Executive Director and Chief Advocacy Officer of RETTC. “Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are already transforming how housing providers operate and serve residents, making housing more efficient, more responsive, and ultimately more attainable. Our new AI Governance Framework provides a roadmap for housing providers and their technology partners in developing, deploying, and using these technologies responsibly. This framework is something policymakers should look to as safely fueling innovation, grounded in consumer protection and critical to scaling sorely needed housing supply to address affordability.”
The AI Governance Framework reflects RETTC’s approach to engaging the rental housing community, policymakers and the broader public on responsible innovation. It is intended to inform dialogue and is guided by the following core principles: Fairness, Transparency, Privacy, People-Centered Governance, and Accountability.
