Veteran Cybersecurity and Privacy Leader Brings Deep Legal and Technical Expertise from NSA, Coinbase & Oracle to Drive Operational Resilience and Transform Incident Response Automation at BreachRx
SAN FRANCISCO: BreachRx, the leader in intelligent cyber incident response management (CIRM), today announced the appointment of Cody Wamsley as Vice President and General Counsel. With a proven track record in incident response, privacy, and legal innovation in the private sector and in government, including Coinbase, Oracle, and the National Security Agency (NSA), Wamsley will play a pivotal role in advancing BreachRx’s platform and supporting customers as they navigate the evolving landscape of cybersecurity risk and regulation.
“Having handled over 1,500 cybersecurity incidents, I have seen first-hand how every single aspect of incident response---from communications and collaboration to legal process---requires unique diligence and precision,” said Wamsley. “We are at a critical industry-wide inflection point. With leaders now expected to make high-stakes decisions in minutes rather than days, the inefficiencies of ad hoc or unpracticed incident management processes pose greater risks than ever. It’s long past time to automate IR workflows and implement a more adaptive approach. BreachRx is the best solution for IR automation, and I am proud to join at this pivotal time.”
Wamsley’s history in cybersecurity law dates back over a decade, with influential positions at American Express, 3M, Dorsey & Whitney, and Sterlington PLLC. He began his career as Director of Legal Affairs and Patent Counsel at CyberSponse, an incident response management startup credited with establishing the Security Orchestration & Automation Response (SOAR) category prior to its acquisition by Fortinet in 2019. While at the NSA, Wamsley was instrumental in advancing national-level cyber defense and legal strategy for critical government missions.
“Cody has led incident response in some of the world’s most high-pressure environments, so he knows exactly how to help our customers prepare for the worst,” said Anderson Lunsford, CEO and Co-founder, BreachRx. “Far too many organizations have incident response plans that are collecting dust, leading to chaotic responses that won’t hold up under scrutiny. True confidence in effectively managing security incidents comes from automated, operationalized workflows that embed proven expertise at every step–something only a purpose-built platform like BreachRx can provide. Our team has lived through these challenges and understands precisely what’s required when the stakes are highest.”
At BreachRx, Wamsley will oversee a team laser-focused on ensuring the platform continuously evolves with the latest regulatory requirements and privacy laws, while optimizing usability and effectiveness for legal and security professionals. He will also lead efforts to expand the platform’s advanced communication capabilities, empowering customers to maintain control over messaging, manage attorney-client privilege, meet global breach notification standards, and avoid the costly pitfalls that often define the most damaging incidents.
