Real-time monitoring of terminal and street dwell time helps cut unnecessary logistics costs and improve operational efficiency.
SEOUL, South Korea: #Demurrage--Tradlinx, a global import-export logistics platform, announced the launch of its new Demurrage & Detention Monitoring feature within the TRADLINX Ocean Visibility supply chain management solution.
In ocean logistics, demurrage and detention (D&D) are critical cost drivers. Managing them effectively is essential to protecting margins. The new feature is designed to address this persistent industry-wide cost management challenge while improving the day-to-day efficiency of logistics teams.
The feature tracks each container’s terminal dwell (at the port) and street dwell (outside the terminal) in real time, enabling logistics managers to immediately identify cargo at risk of exceeding its allotted free time.
For example, users can quickly filter for containers that have been sitting in the terminal beyond a set threshold or whose returns are delayed after pickup, using conditions such as “more than 7 days.” This eliminates the need for managers to manually check pickup and return schedules for every shipment. Instead, they can focus on at-risk cargo and take proactive action before extra costs are incurred.
The feature is also flexible enough to fit different operating environments. Large shippers can integrate it with their internal ERP systems via API for real-time cost monitoring. Forwarders can download risk data as Excel reports and share clear, data-driven risk assessments with their shipper customers-for example, “12 containers nearing free time expiration” or “estimated $8,000 in additional costs.”
Park Min-gyu, CEO of Tradlinx, said, “Demurrage and detention have long been a blind spot in logistics management, causing significant financial losses every year. With this new feature, our customers can manage complex D&D costs in a transparent, data-driven way and significantly improve both operational efficiency and cost predictability.”
