PCIe/NVMe SSDs Tested for Compatibility and Interoperability in the 2.5-inch Form Factor

SAN JOSE, Calif.: Kioxia America, Inc. today announced that several of its 2.5-inch form factor SSDs have been successfully tested for compatibility and interoperability with the Adaptec® SmartRAID 4300 Series RAID storage accelerator card from Microchip Technology Inc. The verified drives include the KIOXIA CM7 Series Enterprise PCIe 5.0 NVMe 2.0, KIOXIA CD8P Series Data Center PCIe® 5.0 NVMe™ 2.0, and KIOXIA CD8 Series PCIe 4.0 NVMe 1.4 SSDs.

The Adaptec SmartRAID 4300 accelerator supports up to 32 NVMe SSDs, with each drive directly connected to the CPU through its own dedicated channel. This design eliminates the PCIe bottleneck typically associated with a traditional single x16 host interface, enabling each SSD to operate at peak performance. This innovative architecture delivers exceptional throughput and IOPS, making it an ideal solution for data-intensive enterprise applications.

“Our innovative solution offers PCIe 4.0/5.0 NVMe performance and enterprise security in a scalable, hardware-accelerated RAID architecture for next-generation enterprise and AI data centers,” said Brian McCarson, corporate vice president of Microchip’s data center solutions business unit. “Collaboration with leading SSD manufacturers like Kioxia highlights our commitment to delivering high-performance, adaptable solutions that are easily deployed into advanced data centers.”

KIOXIA’s CD Series SSDs offer PCIe/NVMe performance designed for scale-out and cloud environments, delivering efficient storage for large, distributed deployments. The CM Series provides dual-port PCIe/NVMe capability and supports capacities up to 30.72TB, making it well-suited for mission-critical enterprise applications that require high availability and strong performance.

“The success of future data center infrastructures hinges on ecosystem collaboration and interoperability, ensuring smooth integration of current and future technologies,” said Neville Ichhaporia, senior vice president and general manager of the SSD business unit at Kioxia America, Inc. “As a leader in enterprise and data center SSDs, we remain committed to advancing the industry with innovative solutions that enable the next generation of applications and services.”

Definition of capacity: KIOXIA Corporation defines a kilobyte (KB) as 1,000 bytes, a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes, a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes, and a kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 2^40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content.
