RESTON, Va.: #cloud--Rancher Government Solutions (RGS) today announced the release of Hauler v1.4.0, the next iteration of the open-source artifact management tool purpose-built for secure, air-gapped environments. Hauler simplifies the airgapping process, by representing assets (images, charts, files, etc.) as OCI artifacts to allow users to easily fetch, store, package, validate, and distribute those assets into any environment, including those that are fully disconnected. This release reflects extensive feedback from U.S. Government customers and community users and marks an important milestone in Hauler’s continued evolution.

“Hauler is starting the new year off right with a really exciting release packed with highly requested features from our user community,” said Camryn Carter, Director of Product Management at RGS. “Operating in disconnected and air-gapped environments is uniquely difficult, and Hauler was built to address that reality. Hauler v1.4.0 reflects feedback from these challenges and improves day-to-day operations.”

What’s New in Hauler v1.4.0

Hauler v1.4.0 introduces three major capabilities that significantly improve usability and operational efficiency:

  • Automatic Helm Chart Dependency Resolution
When adding Helm charts to a Hauler store, flags can be set to automatically parse, fetch, and include all dependent charts and container images. This ensures teams arrive in air-gapped environments with everything they need, eliminating missed dependencies and deployment delays.
  • Artifact Renaming and Registry Path Rewrites
Users can now fully customize how artifacts are named and where they are stored within private registries. This allows teams to enforce internal standards, organize artifacts by mission or program, and maintain cleaner, more predictable registries.
  • Selective Artifact Removal
Hauler now supports removing individual or multiple artifacts from an existing store using simple string matching. This makes it easy to make edits-such as removing an unintended image tag-without reprocessing large stores.

In addition, Hauler v1.4.0 includes the latest security fixes and dependency updates, ensuring users are running the most current and secure version available.

“These features represent a big step forward in how operators manage real-world air-gapped environments,” said Zack Brady, Solutions Architect and lead engineer on the Hauler project at Rancher Government Solutions. “From automatically handling chart dependencies to giving users fine-grained control over artifact paths and cleanup, Hauler v1.4 reduces friction and saves time where it matters most.”

Hauler continues to be a valuable utility that extends the capabilities of the RGS portfolio, reinforcing the company’s focus on open-source solutions that are government-first, security-focused, and operationally practical for the most demanding environments.
