Funding will drive commercial expansion of the first fully wireless FDA-cleared EEG system, making AI-driven remote brain monitoring more widely available to patients and providers.
SALT LAKE CITY: #epilepsy--Epitel, Inc., a leader in AI-driven wireless brain health technologies, announced today the closing of a $26 million Series B financing co-led by Catalyst Health Ventures and Genoa Ventures, with participation from new and existing investors. The funding will support the continued market expansion of the company’s REMI® Remote EEG Monitoring System, allowing extended duration wireless EEG monitoring integrated with AI-driven event detection to improve access to neurological care.
Epitel is initially focused on seizure detection and diagnosis. In the United States, 9.2 million Americans experience seizures annually, yet 40 percent lack access to EEG, in part because only 27 percent of U.S. hospitals have EEG capacity1. For many patients, diagnosis depends on capturing seizure activity on EEG, as most seizures do not manifest with outward clinical symptoms. Traditional EEG typically can only be used to monitor patients for up to three days (72 hours); however, seizures are rare, unpredictable events that may occur days or weeks apart. This means that achieving a proper diagnosis can take months or longer.
Epitel is addressing these challenges through the REMI™ portfolio, which has received five U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearances across its wireless EEG monitoring and AI-driven event detection technologies. Using wireless, wearable sensors, the REMI Remote EEG Monitoring System enables monitoring of brain activity at home during everyday activities for several weeks, extending access to neurological care beyond traditional hospital or tethered settings. REMI Vigilenz™ AI For Event Detection analyzes REMI EEG to flag potential seizures, helping clinicians efficiently review extended-duration recordings and accelerate diagnosis by capturing objective evidence. The platform is cleared for neurological monitoring in patients as young as one year old, with AI-assisted event detection available for patients aged six and older, supporting Epitel’s goal of accessible EEG monitoring across all age groups.
"Millions of Americans with suspected seizures still face significant barriers to diagnosis because access to EEG remains limited, particularly outside major medical centers. We built the REMI System to help close that gap by bringing longer-term neurological monitoring closer to patients and helping clinicians efficiently review the data needed to make a diagnosis," said Steve Pacelli, President & Chief Executive Officer of Epitel. "Closing this Series B round represents a pivotal milestone for our team. With these resources, we are aggressively building out our commercial footprint by expanding our dedicated field team to get REMI into the hands of those who will most benefit from it."
The Series B capital will specifically fund the following initiatives:
“Seizures are unpredictable, and many patients are often unaware of them. Established EEG tools for objectively assessing seizure burden have been limited by monitoring duration, as in ambulatory EEG, or by cost and an unnatural setting, as in inpatient video EEG monitoring,” said Dr. Daniel Friedman, MD, Professor and Director, Division of Epilepsy, NYU Langone Health. “REMI provides a new solution for diagnosis and disease tracking on clinically relevant timescales of days to weeks, in a patient-friendly, convenient way.”
With the closing of this round, Epitel is poised to deepen its clinical footprint across the United States. By easing the clinical burden on neurologists and enhancing patient adherence through a truly wireless experience, Epitel aims to redefine the standard of care for millions by making EEG accessible and equitable. Epitel aims to redefine the standard of care for the millions of individuals living with epilepsy and other neurological conditions.
“The ambulatory EEG market has needed this kind of disruption for decades, and Epitel has built the right solution at the right moment,” said Joshua Phillips, Founder and Managing Partner, Catalyst Health Ventures, as well as Chairman of the Epitel Board of Directors. “This round gives the team the runway to move fast and meet the demand that's already there. The technology is groundbreaking, but what really positions Epitel to transform brain health monitoring care is their clarity of purpose."
