The Temporal Platform, which already powers agents for OpenAI and Cursor, is adding the controls enterprises need to put agents to work on their most sensitive systems
SAN FRANCISCO: Temporal, the open-source platform that powers the world's most capable AI applications, today announced that the team behind Oso has joined the company to accelerate its work on AI agent security. Oso's experience building permissions for enterprise applications will support Temporal’s ongoing work to make fine-grained authorization a native part of execution. The effort addresses identity, access and policy enforcement as agents call tools, act on business-critical data and coordinate work across systems.
"Agents and frontier intelligence are changing what companies need from application infrastructure. Reliability and visibility are built into Temporal’s execution architecture, and control over an agent’s actions and authority must be just as fundamental,” said Samar Abbas, co-founder and CEO of Temporal Technologies. "Adding Oso’s expertise will put those controls in developers’ hands faster, so companies can trust Temporal to run and govern more of the work their business depends on.”
Companies have tolerated overpermissioning because people limit themselves with judgment. Agents don't, with research showing 96% of permissions go unused. While employees ignore that access, agents won't. Agents cannot be allowed to set or expand the limits of their own authority. Even during a failure, a company’s policies and credentials have to endure to direct an agent’s actions. Crashes, timeouts and retries are a given in production, so if an agent can bypass an approval or replay a rejected action, the safeguards are broken.
"What makes agents valuable is the same thing that makes them dangerous – access to real systems and data," said Graham Neray, Founder and Former CEO of Oso. "Temporal already powers agents in applications like Cursor and OpenAI Codex, and unlocking their full potential requires the right security controls. We’re joining Temporal to accelerate its work on agent authorization, giving developers more precise control over what agents can access and do.”
Connecting and governing AI agents in production
As AI agents move money, change records and call other agents, companies need control over what they’re allowed to do and on whose behalf. Temporal’s Durable Execution provides the foundation for reliable execution, while Temporal Nexus connects applications across team and namespace boundaries. As agents increasingly delegate work to one another, access decisions need to hold across those boundaries and survive the crashes and retries that Durable Execution is built to handle.
The experts joining from Oso will help Temporal carry the identity behind an agent’s request across those connections, so each service can apply its own access policies. Netflix already uses Temporal Nexus to connect applications across teams. Presenting at Replay 2026, Netflix said more than 150 teams at the company use Temporal across over 500 namespaces, processing more than 5 billion actions each month.
This news comes on the heels of Temporal’s recent Series E announcement, raising $550M in September 2026. From long-running agents to payments and customer operations, Temporal supports critical applications at OpenAI Codex, Cursor, Loveable, Netflix, and thousands more.
