New product helps marketers move beyond channel-level signals to understand which creators and touchpoints are driving revenue.

NEW YORK: Fairing, the zero-party data measurement and attribution platform, today announced the launch of Advanced Attribution, a new product that identifies the specific podcasts, TV placements, creators, and AI platforms driving a brand's sales.

Advanced Attribution builds on the "How did you hear about us?" (HDYHAU) post-purchase survey that Fairing helped popularize. When a customer selects a channel, the product asks a dynamic follow-up question tailored to that answer, turning a channel-level response into a named source.

Brands are investing more than ever in channels that never produce a measurable click. A customer hears about a product on a podcast, sees a creator use it, or asks ChatGPT for a recommendation, then searches for the brand days later. Pixel-based and modeled attribution credit the last touch, typically search or direct, and the channel that created the demand goes unmeasured. As discovery fragments across audio, video, influencers, and AI, that gap is widening.

Advanced Attribution closes it by going one level deeper than the standard HDYHAU question. A customer who selects YouTube can identify the creator who influenced them, while someone selecting a Podcast can identify the show. Those citing ChatGPT or another AI assistant can share what they asked. In early rollouts, Advanced Attribution uncovered up to 50% more usable attribution signal from the same order volume, with no change to survey placement or response rates.

The product also introduces managed auto-suggest lists, which keep response options current without brands maintaining them manually. As customers type a free-form "Other" response, matching options surface in real-time, helping turn otherwise ambiguous answers into structured, actionable attribution data.

Matt Bahr, co-founder and CEO of Fairing, said: “Marketing measurement has traditionally been very good at telling brands where a conversion happened, but much less effective at explaining what created the demand. That's becoming a bigger problem as more discovery happens in environments that never produce a click. Advanced Attribution gives brands a layer of evidence no pixel or model can: the customer's own account of what influenced their decision, captured in enough detail to act on."

Jessica C. VP of Operations, Podscale said: “Knowing a customer heard about a brand through a podcast doesn't provide advertisers with enough information. We need to understand which shows influence purchases, so we can make better decisions about where to invest and how to scale campaigns. Advanced Attribution gives us that additional level of insight directly from the customer, helping connect individual podcast placements more clearly to revenue.”

Advanced Attribution launches on September 10 in beta, with brands able to request early access to the new functionality, while Fairing continues to develop the product based on customer usage and feedback. The company plans to expand the feature set over the coming months ahead of general availability in January 2027.
