New AI Learning Environment in Development as Healthcare AI Credentials Go Live Across All Covista Institutions
Convenes Healthcare AI Readiness Council of Clinical and Industry Leaders to Guide AI Education
CHICAGO: Covista (NYSE: CVSA), America’s largest healthcare educator, today announced that the healthcare AI credentials Covista and Google Cloud launched together in October are now available to enrolled students across all five Covista institutions-and they are going further. Working in collaboration with Google Cloud, Covista is developing the AI-powered classroom of the future: a learning environment that will push education to a new level through precision learning at scale.
The urgency behind this work is well-documented. The Covista Care Capacity Monitor, fielded by Gallup, finds three-quarters of healthcare executives say AI has a positive impact on care quality-and 65% believe it can help address staffing shortages. Yet 59% of executive leaders say most of their clinical workforce needs upskilling or reskilling in AI. Health systems have made significant technology investments. What unlocks them is a workforce prepared enough to use them. Covista is building that workforce.
Developing the AI-Powered Classroom of the Future
Covista has a vision for a fully personalized learning environment that adapts to every individual student across every step of their program. Today the company is announcing the active development of the first piece of that vision-a precision learning experience embedded directly within Canvas, the learning management system Covista students already use every day.
The goal is a learning companion that knows each student as an individual-built from their actual course materials, responsive to how they learn best and proactive about where they need support. A student who absorbs material better through visuals can engage that way. One who wants to test understanding before class can do that. Another who needs to hear how a concept connects can listen to a podcast built from their own curriculum. The experience will be designed to become more precise the longer a student uses it-continuously learning alongside them, anticipating where they need support to drive the path to mastery.
"Personalized learning at scale remains one of higher education's most formidable unsolved challenges,” said Michael Betz, Chief Growth and Innovation Officer, Covista. "Our work with Google Cloud and others represents a serious, deliberate effort to address that gap, delivered directly within the tools students rely on daily. That integration is what distinguishes this initiative. The classroom is just one component of our broader AI strategy, and we are advancing on all fronts with considerable urgency. This work will redefine the future of healthcare education-and Covista is leading it."
Covista is collaborating with Google Cloud to scale personalized learning by integrating LearnLM, Gemini and NotebookLM into a unified student experience. The initiative aims to provide tailored educational pathways across higher education. Covista expects to pilot the integrated environment in student settings later this year.
"The future of healthcare will include an empowered workforce that is ready to leverage AI and the latest technology to improve patient care and accelerate clinical discovery," said Matthew Schneider, Managing Director, U.S. Education, State and Local Government, Google Public Sector. "Covista is taking a leading role in ensuring the next generation of clinicians is prepared to thrive in a digital environment. We are proud to provide the AI infrastructure that helps Covista scale this level of personalized education to healthcare professionals nationwide."
Healthcare AI Credentials Now Live for Students, Alumni and Healthcare Professionals
The healthcare-specific AI credentials announced in October are now available. All five Covista institutions are offering AI professional certificates to enrolled students and alumni-and demand has been immediate. More than 3,400 learners enrolled within the first week of launch, signaling the urgency felt around AI fluency in the health professions. Certificates have launched in areas spanning nursing, medicine, and foundational AI knowledge, with additional certificates coming this summer that focus on the intersection of AI with veterinary medicine, mental health, and other disciplines.
The same certificates are available to alumni of Covista institutions and to healthcare professionals seeking AI training-accessible through the Covista institution of their choice, with flexible coursework built around the schedules of working clinicians that delivers practical, job-ready skills.
The curriculum covers AI applications that support clinical practice, responsible considerations of AI use, and hands-on experience with tools to prepare learners for AI-enabled healthcare settings.
Graduates who earn these certificates enter the workforce with meaningful progress toward AI fluency-equipped to improve patient outcomes while maintaining human-centered care. That matters: 73% of healthcare executives say AI skills are important for candidates to have-specifically physician specialists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
Grounded in Real Clinical Expertise
To ensure its AI innovation is grounded in the realities of clinical practice, Covista convened the Healthcare AI Readiness Council-bringing together health system executives, technology innovators and clinical educators from across the healthcare ecosystem.
Council members include:
“These leaders will help shape how Covista defines AI-readiness in clinical practice-advising on curriculum, evaluating how tools perform in real care settings and setting the bar for what a prepared graduate looks like from a health system's perspective,” said Betz.
With healthcare-specific AI credentials now in students' hands and the classroom of the future in development, health systems that hire Covista graduates will have clinicians who enter with a foundational understanding of AI in healthcare-prepared to engage with these technologies thoughtfully as they become part of everyday care.
