Insurance industry veteran brings 20+ years of operational and growth leadership - including scaling platforms to support $1B+ in premium and a $2B IPO
SAN DIEGO: FutureProof Technologies, an AI-native property insurance MGA and Agency, today announced the appointment of Jonathan Mertz as Chief Business Officer. Mertz, a seasoned insurance executive with more than two decades of experience spanning insurance enterprise operations, growth strategy and M&A, will lead FutureProof's business development, strategic partnerships, and go-to-market efforts as the company scales toward building its AI-native full-stack property insurance carrier.
Mertz joins FutureProof from Slide Insurance, where as Senior Vice President of Operations he played an instrumental role in scaling the company from inception to over $1 billion in premium revenue in just three years - and in supporting its June 2025 IPO, which achieved a valuation exceeding $2 billion. His scope at Slide encompassed enterprise operations, workforce scaling, claims and contact center build-out, third-party governance, and regulatory engagement across a period of extraordinary growth.
"Jonathan is a rare operator who has done this at every level - building insurance platforms from the ground up to navigating the complexity of a public market debut," said Alisa Valderrama, Co-CEO of FutureProof. "We have spent the past few years proving out our AI-enabled pricing technology in wildfire and hurricane-exposed markets. Next, we will be standing up our own carrier, which builds on our existing pricing, underwriting and portfolio management technology to include policy administration, distribution, and claims. Jonathan’s depth in the fundamentals of property insurance will help ensure our ability to align our market strategy, operations, and technology."
"FutureProof is tackling one of the most consequential challenges in the industry," said Mertz. "I've spent my career building scalable operations in complex regulated markets, and I see a tremendous opportunity here to bring that experience to bear. FutureProof sets an exciting bar for how AI can elevate the quality of product and experience for our customers and also streamline the performance and efficiency of a property insurance company for our business partners."
