The brand students have trusted to succeed in the classroom for nearly two decades now helps them find, prepare and apply for internships through the first student career platform to bring together job discovery, application creation and submission, skills development, networking and interview preparation in one experience.

SAN FRANCISCO: Chegg, a global learning and workforce skilling company, today announced a major expansion of its mission, moving beyond academic support to help students navigate one of the most challenging and critical steps in launching a career: securing the right internship. This expansion represents another step in broadening Chegg’s relationship with students beyond academic support and into career outcomes.

Building on nearly two decades of supporting students in the classroom, Chegg now provides an integrated internship experience that, for the very first time, brings together opportunity discovery, application creation and submission, skills assessment and development, professional networking, and interview preparation.

The new career experience is designed to transform the way students find and secure internships by reducing friction at every stage of the process – from searching job boards and rewriting resumes to drafting cover letters, completing applications, tracking opportunities, finding relevant skills courses and figuring out who to contact. Chegg does the heavy lifting – turning what can be a fragmented, time-consuming and cognitively demanding process into a series of simple decisions. Its mission is simple: enable students to submit more, higher-quality applications with less time and effort.

With the unemployment rate among recent college graduates at 5.7%, up from 4.0% three years ago, securing early career opportunities is becoming increasingly difficult. Yet the internship search itself remains a barrier: 43% of students who missed out on an internship cited a lack of time to search for one, while an estimated 56% of those who want one ultimately end up without it.

“For years, students have come to Chegg to be successful in their studies. Now, Chegg will help them go from learning to earning,” said Dan Rosensweig, CEO and Executive Chairman of Chegg. “We’re bringing internship and career support, skills development, and learning together in one place. We’ll help students understand which opportunities are right for them, identify what skills they need to develop, build those skills, make the right connections, submit stronger applications, and ultimately succeed in getting the interviews that lead to jobs. Unlike traditional job marketplaces built primarily around employers, Chegg is designed around the student – removing the barriers between them and employment.”

Chegg goes beyond traditional career platforms that stop at job matching or application optimization – taking students from finding the right internship to building the skills they need to land it, and curating a network around them to support them on their career path. Underpinning this experience is Chegg's proprietary data, AI and deep insight into how students learn and build careers to create an increasingly connected experience – and a brand beloved by millions.

First, Chegg provides career intelligence by looking across a student’s skills, interests, qualifications, experience and career aspirations to identify internships that represent the strongest fit and most promising path forward. From there, the platform provides the skills development students need to pursue those opportunities. It helps students understand where their current profile is strong, where gaps may be limiting their access to the roles they want and, critically, what capabilities they need to develop to become stronger candidates and unlock more opportunities. That could mean building a new skill, strengthening an existing capability, gaining relevant experience or developing the connections that can help open doors.

Because this is an expansion of the Chegg platform, returning Chegg students get a more personalized experience. The classes they've taken and the work they've already done can become the foundation of a resume tailored to them from day one. New students start by uploading their resume. From there, Chegg:

  • Finds and matches students to the right opportunities: AI identifies internships based on skills, interests, location, education, and career aspirations, prioritizing the strongest matches in search results.
  • Creates stronger applications: The platform tailors resumes to individual opportunities, sharpening bullet points, removing less relevant content and highlighting relevant skills and experience. It also generates customized cover letters. Students can see and edit all changes and retain final approval over their application materials.
  • Applies with less effort: With Apply in One Click, students can approve their tailored materials and have the platform complete and submit application forms on their behalf.
  • Builds skills and closes skills gaps: The platform identifies skills that students may need for their target roles. It then connects them with relevant learning through Chegg Skills, including short videos and outcome-driven courses. Students can also see the potential impact of closing those skills gaps, including the percentage increase in jobs for which they could qualify.
  • Prepares for interviews: AI-powered interview tools let students practice for specific roles through simulated interviews, repeat drills, timed exercises and spoken practice, with real-time feedback.
  • Builds the right connections: The platform identifies relevant alumni and hiring contacts at target companies and in target fields, drafting personalized outreach messages to help students build their networks.

Internships available through the platform span sectors including finance, consulting, law and policy, AI and engineering, and healthcare, with opportunities across cities throughout the United States. Students can explore open internships by field, location and company to understand where opportunities exist, and which ones may be right for them.

Internships play an increasingly important role in winning job offers. Independent studies show that 71.8% of interns receive a full-time job offer from their internship employer, while employers rank internships as the most influential factor in choosing between equally qualified job candidates – above study major, general work experience, leadership experience, extracurricular activities, and GPA.

From learning to earning, Chegg will help students turn their education into meaningful career opportunities. This expanded Chegg experience is now available at internships.com and chegg.com.
