Minister of Made in Italy (MiMT) Adolfo Urso and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, Yasutoshi Nishimura, signed a joint document on economic, industrial and technological cooperation between the two countries. The collaboration between the ministers is aimed at increasing industrial synergies between the two countries, as well as making investments in each other's fields of interest.

This agreement is considered as a natural continuation of the process of strengthening the political partnership between Italy and Japan, sanctioned by Prime Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Fumio Kishida last January, with the elevation of the bilateral relationship to Strategic Partnership.

The increasing cooperation between Italy and Japan will be substantiated through the promotion of collaborations between companies and startups in the fields of next-generation technologies - such as Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, and quantum technologies - energy, infrastructure, and biotech. A crucial role in developing more industrial relations between Italy and Japan will be played by the government agencies Istituto Commercio Estero (ICE) and Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO).

On the sidelines of the institutional agreement, the MiMT discussed more specifically with Sony's Japanese top management about the Japanese company's investments in Italy. Sony recently joined the Chips.it Foundation and has a research center in Trento, Italy, dedicated to chip design.
