The 545,000-square-foot Salt Lake City facility is scaling American-made mesh energy infrastructure as Torus grows its Utah workforce and manufacturing footprint

SALT LAKE CITY: Torus today announced that GigaOne, its 545,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, set a weekly production record for completed storage pods, increasing output across the company by more than 76% since the plant came online just six months ago. Today, GigaOne is in full production and setting new records week after week, even as build-out continues.

GigaOne is central to Torus's mission to build the world's first mesh energy infrastructure, the connective layer that helps the grid serve unprecedented growth. Electricity demand is climbing faster than the grid can keep up, driven by AI, electrification, and new manufacturing. New transmission lines can take a decade and a new power plant takes years. Meanwhile, the existing grid runs at roughly half its capacity on average because it is designed to manage peak loads. Torus puts that idle headroom to work at the point of demand, deploying its flexible load infrastructure in months, not years.

Production Is Ramping Fast

GigaOne manufactures the heart of every Torus Station, including the Torus Spin flywheel, which provides rotational energy and reacts in milliseconds, and the Torus Pulse battery, which carries the load over longer stretches. Together, they provide voltage and frequency support, power quality, and dispatchability for participation in utility demand response programs.

This spring, Torus opened its HVAC and power-cap lines, and now builds nearly the entire battery energy storage system at GigaOne, adding to the current output of its 37,000-square-foot South Salt Lake manufacturing and assembly facility. Output is moving closer to the goal of building a gigawatt of nameplate capacity each year, shortening the time between a customer signing on and their power coming online.

"GigaOne is named for the ambition behind it. We built this plant to manufacture energy infrastructure at gigawatt scale, here in the United States, using local vendors and suppliers as much as possible," said Dan Fermon, Chief Operating Officer at Torus. "This is intelligent infrastructure that operates across the distribution layer of the grid. The records our team is already setting show we are well on our way."

The People Building It

Torus started 2025 with 88 employees, finished the year with nearly 200, and today employs nearly 300 people. As the company's Made in America footprint has grown, its work now supports thousands of local families across small business vendors and Tier One suppliers.

On June 1, the company launched a hands-on technician training program with Salt Lake Community College. New technicians spend five days building production-quality Torus Stations before their first shift. The program is tuition-free through Utah Works, a workforce training initiative supported by Talent Ready Utah and the Utah System of Higher Education. For those who continue into an apprenticeship, Torus covers all first-year costs and half of the costs for years two through four. More information is available at talentready.ushe.edu.

"This partnership gives students a direct path from the classroom to skilled manufacturing careers in a growing Utah industry," said Rebecca McOmber, Chief People Officer at Torus. "By the time they walk onto the floor at GigaOne, they've already built the product with their own hands."
