Ask a clinical question in the middle of a visit and get an answer cited to the medical literature, now included in every Freed plan at no additional cost.

SAN FRANCISCO: Freed, the AI scribe trusted by more than 26,000 clinicians and institutions across 100+ specialties, today announced the launch of Clinical Evidence, which lets a provider ask a clinical question and get back an answer grounded in the published medical literature and cited to its sources. The answers are sharpened by that patient's context, and carry no advertising of any kind.

Every answer draws on more than 50 trusted medical sources, from peer-reviewed journals to federal clinical guidance, linking out to each one so clinicians can read source material directly.

When Freed launched its AI scribe in 2023, it gave clinicians their evenings back by eliminating after-hours charting. Freed then expanded across the rest of the workflow with coding, visit prep, clinical letters, and an AI-supported front desk. Clinical Evidence is the next chapter, and it moves Freed from capturing what happened in the visit to supporting in care delivery.

The questions that never get asked

Clinicians raise roughly one clinical question for every two patients they see. They pursue about half of them. That's the finding of a systematic review of 72 studies published in JAMA Internal Medicine, which pooled 7,012 questions raised by clinicians right after patient visits. When clinicians do go looking, they're good at it, finding answers 78% of the time. The problem is the half they never pursue.

The two barriers the review identified were lack of time and doubt that a useful answer exists. And the authors noted the pattern has stayed remarkably stable over decades, despite the arrival of one online evidence resource after another.

More reference tools didn't fix the gap in asking. The time cost of stopping and switching browser tabs or apps is too high.

What it does

Clinical Evidence lives in the sidebar of the note the clinician is already working on. Because it sits inside the scribe, the visit and note context in Freed sharpens the answer. A pediatrician asking about weight-based dosing gets an answer that accounts for this patient's weight. A psychiatrist asking about a tapering approach gets an answer shaped by what's already documented. There is no second tab, no retyping the case, and no copying the answer back into the chart.

Every answer carries linked citations. Freed doesn't publish the evidence and doesn't search the open web for it either. Answers are drawn from a defined set of 50+ sources clinicians already trust, including PubMed, Cochrane, FDA, CDC, NIH, and NEJM. Practicing clinicians decide which sources are in scope and evaluate the answers that come back. Patient information stays inside Freed's HIPAA boundary, with identifying details removed before any external query.

Freed’s Clinical Evidence surfaces guidelines, recommendations, and research to support a clinician's judgment. It does not make clinical decisions or recommend treatment.

A clean answer with no sponsor

The moment of care has become valuable advertising inventory. Spending on point-of-care pharmaceutical marketing grew 171% between 2019 and 2023 and crossed $1 billion for the first time in 2024, according to the Point of Care Marketing Association, which represents the companies selling it. Some of the reference tools clinicians rely on are free precisely because that inventory pays for them.

Freed took a different position. Clinical Evidence carries no ads and no sponsored placement.

"Clinicians shouldn't have to wonder who paid for the answer on their screen, and they shouldn't have to accept a generic answer for a specific patient," said Erez Druk, co-founder and CEO of Freed. "We built this the way a clinician would build it. Real sources, chosen by people who see patients, with the citation right there so you can check our work. The answer belongs to the clinician, not to whoever bought the space."

Pricing and availability

Clinical Evidence is available now and included in every Freed plan at no additional cost, from Starter through Premier. No IT department required and no enterprise contract. Start a seven-day free trial at https://www.getfreed.ai/clinical-evidence.
