Industry veteran and former Intuitive executive brings platform-scaling expertise to Sovato’s remote surgery and procedure platform.
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.: Sovato, the only comprehensive solution enabling health systems to deploy and scale remote surgery and procedure programs, today announced the appointment of Brian Miller, PhD, as Chief Executive Officer.
With market validation accelerating, Miller joins Sovato as it moves from early market development to commercialization. He adds seasoned leadership to a company that has been building the foundation for a new category of care delivery since its inception.
Co-founder Cynthia Perazzo, who has led Sovato as CEO since 2022, will continue as President. Under her leadership, Sovato helped define the category opportunity, raised $41M through Series B, advanced product development, and established partnerships with leading device companies and health systems. Miller and Perazzo will both serve on the company’s Board of Directors.
Miller brings more than 25 years of experience in surgical robotics and digital innovation. He most recently served as Head of Digital and AI Strategy and Chief Digital Officer at Intuitive. His career spans early work on the first FDA-cleared robotic systems at Computer Motion before joining Intuitive, where he shaped the company's digital evolution and helped launch its digital products and solutions. His experience traces back to the landmark Lindbergh Operation-the first transatlantic remote surgery performed between the U.S. and France.
“I’ve seen this pattern before-a technology that works and a market that’s ready,” said Miller. “Robotic surgery went from early innovation to global standard of care, and remote surgery and procedures is on the same trajectory. For the first time, we can break down barriers in healthcare-geography, capacity, and access-and broadly expand access to surgical, interventional, and diagnostic expertise. Sovato has spent four years building the right foundation, and now is the moment to scale.”
Remote surgery and procedures represents the virtualization of care delivery-extending clinical expertise beyond the in-person boundaries that have historically defined it. As health systems begin adopting this new model of care, Sovato provides a single, device-agnostic solution to orchestrate scalable remote surgery and procedure programs across sites, specialties, and geographies.
“From the start, we aimed to enable safe remote surgery and procedure programs-a model that delivers meaningful value across the healthcare ecosystem,” said Perazzo. “Today, we have the platform, partnerships, and market readiness to make that vision real. Brian’s expertise and deep ecosystem relationships make him exceptionally well-suited to lead Sovato's next chapter.”
Miller’s appointment strengthens Sovato’s position within the remote procedure ecosystem. His relationships across industry, health systems, and clinical leaders reinforce the company’s commitment to collaboration as it moves toward commercialization and market adoption.
“Brian’s appointment underscores the Board’s confidence in Sovato’s trajectory and our belief that the remote procedure market is entering an inflection point,” said Yulun Wang, PhD, Co-founder and Executive Chairman. “With a strong foundation, our existing leadership, and Brian’s proven ability to scale platforms globally, Sovato is well-positioned to lead the industry into a new era of care delivery.”
Sovato plans to launch its first remote procedure programs with health system partners in early 2027, setting the stage for broader commercialization.
