Survey findings show Canadians are overlooking opportunities to maximize loyalty rewards through mobile purchases

TORONTO: New survey findings commissioned by The Mobile Shop™ reveal that many Canadians may still be leaving rewards on the table, despite the growing role rewards programs play in everyday spending decisions. The Mobile Shop™, which offers customers the opportunity to earn PC Optimum™ points on select phone purchases, commissioned the survey to better understand how Canadians are engaging with rewards programs and where gaps in rewards optimization still exist.

At a time when Canadians are becoming more intentional about how they spend and maximize value from everyday purchases, rewards programs continue to play an increasingly important role in consumer decision-making. With a wide range of rewards programs now available across different categories, Canadians have more opportunities than ever to earn points and get more from the spending they are already doing.

In fact, 85 per cent of Canadians say they at least try to make the most of available rewards and loyalty benefits. However, despite high rewards program participation and strong intentions to maximize benefits, survey insights found:

  • 56 per cent of Canadians enrolled in rewards programs say they are not making the most of them.
  • 53 per cent believe they regularly leave rewards unclaimed.

While rewards programs continue to influence spending on everyday essentials like groceries (57 per cent) and gas (55 per cent), survey findings suggest mobile shopping remains a largely untapped rewards opportunity for Canadians:

  • Only 30 per cent of Canadians have considered rewards when purchasing a mobile phone or plan, and just 23 per cent actively try to maximize rewards on mobile purchases.
  • However, 71 per cent say rewards would influence their decision if shopping for a mobile device or plan today, underscoring a clear opportunity for Canadians to unlock more value when making these purchases.

How Canadians Can Unlock More Value

The findings suggest that while Canadians are actively looking for more ways to maximize rewards, many may not realize the opportunity to earn points through mobile purchases.

The Mobile Shop™ helps make mobile shopping easier and more rewarding by offering access to the latest devices and plans from multiple leading carriers.

As the only retailer where customers can earn and redeem PC Optimum™ points on select phone purchases, The Mobile Shop™ gives Canadians more opportunities to maximize value in a purchase category that many may be overlooking. The PC Optimum™ program is designed with flexibility in mind, meaning the points earned on a mobile purchase can be redeemed in a variety of ways, whether that's helping reduce the cost of groceries, everyday essentials or a future device upgrade.

The findings suggest that while Canadians are actively looking for more ways to maximize rewards, many may not realize the opportunity to earn points through mobile purchases.
