Industry's First SSD Optimized for GPU Direct Access Recognized in the 'Specialized Storage' Category
TOKYO: Kioxia Corporation today announced that its KIOXIA GP Series PCIe® NVMe™ SSD has received the FMS: the Future of Memory and Storage ‘Best of Show’ award in the ‘Specialized Storage’ category. The Best of Show Awards recognize product and solution excellence, honoring companies and technologies shaping the future of the memory and storage industry.
Purpose-built for AI infrastructure, the KIOXIA GP1 PCIe 6.0 SSD is part of the GP Series which is the industry's first*1 Super High IOPS PCIe® SSD optimized for GPU direct access. Powered by KIOXIA XL-FLASH™ generation 2 low-latency flash memory, it delivers up to 10 million random read IOPS*2 with 512-byte data access, enabling flash to serve as a high-performance memory extension tier that helps improve GPU utilization for AI workloads.
"As AI infrastructure evolves, storage is becoming a critical enabler of next-generation system architectures," said George Mullins, Conference Director, Future of Memory and Storage. "The KIOXIA GP Series reflects KIOXIA's continued innovation in flash memory and AI storage technologies. By addressing emerging AI infrastructure requirements with a forward-looking storage architecture, the KIOXIA GP Series stands out as a deserving recipient of this year's FMS Best of Show award in the Specialized Storage category."
By extending High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) with a high-performance flash tier, the KIOXIA GP1 Series enables AI systems to efficiently access larger datasets without relying solely on costly in-node HBM or DRAM expansion. Built on KIOXIA XL-FLASH generation 2 memory with a PCIe® 6.0 and NVMe™ 2.2 interface, the architecture is designed to scale from today's 10 million random read IOPS to future generations targeting 100 million IOPS.
Evaluation samples of KIOXIA GP1 Series will be available to select customers by the end of 2026.
Notes:
*1: As of March 16, 2026, based on Kioxia survey.
*2: Read and write speed may vary depending on various factors such as host devices, software (drivers, OS etc.), and read/write conditions.
Definition of capacity: Kioxia Corporation defines a megabyte (MB) as 1,000,000 bytes, a gigabyte (GB) as 1,000,000,000 bytes and a terabyte (TB) as 1,000,000,000,000 bytes. A computer operating system, however, reports storage capacity using powers of 2 for the definition of 1GB = 2^30 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes and 1TB = 2^40 bytes = 1,099,511,627,776 bytes and therefore shows less storage capacity. Available storage capacity (including examples of various media files) will vary based on file size, formatting, settings, software and operating system, and/or pre-installed software applications, or media content. Actual formatted capacity may vary.
