Initial rollout planned for early 2027 will be limited to 100 user seats for solo practitioners, small law firms, and medium-sized law firms.
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.: Maven today announced a shift from legal meeting intelligence to AI-powered matter intelligence, with plans to connect matter documents, meeting records, and legal research in one platform. Client access is planned to begin in early 2027.
Maven began by helping legal teams turn meetings into transcripts, summaries, action items, and draft billing entries. Feedback from beta users highlighted the need to connect those outputs with documents and research throughout a matter, shaping Maven’s decision to broaden its focus.
“Our beta users helped us see that the opportunity extended beyond the meeting itself. We are building Maven to help legal teams connect the facts, documents, and legal authorities in a matter, with sources they can inspect before relying on an answer. Our vision is to give smaller firms practical access to capabilities that help them work more effectively and compete with larger practices,” said Olu Obasanjo, Founder and CEO of Maven.
The planned first version will give legal teams client and matter workspaces that bring documents and meeting records together. Attorneys will be able to ask questions about authorized matter information, open exact supporting passages and document versions, and save cited analysis as draft work product. Matter and document permissions will govern which records each user can access.
To connect those matter-specific questions with legal research, Maven plans to use CourtListener, the legal research platform operated by Free Law Project, as its primary external legal data source. Court opinions and citation data will help ground Maven’s matter intelligence in cited legal authorities that attorneys can inspect alongside their matter records. Initial coverage will depend on the courts and materials included in the integration.
“Useful legal AI shouldn’t come with a BigLaw cover charge or require a string of upgrades,” said Joey Mejias, Chief Product Officer. “We’re building Maven to make matter intelligence practical and affordable for smaller firms, connecting their matter records with cited legal research and making the supporting sources easy to inspect.”
The initial rollout will be capped at 100 user seats and will begin with a free 45-day beta trial for a small, select group of legal teams. Maven will work with participating teams to evaluate citation quality, workflow usefulness, and product performance.
Legal teams interested in the initial rollout can express interest at info@maventech.ai.
Maven will also host webinars with several New York State County bar associations to explore the practical value of matter intelligence for legal teams. Sessions will examine how to connect matter documents, meeting records, and legal research, and how to verify the sources behind AI-generated answers.
Maven’s longer-term goal is an agnostic legal workbench for agentic matter intelligence, connecting different AI models, legal research resources, and workflow tools around a matter. Building on the initial product, AI agents would carry matter context across research, drafting, and follow-up. Attorneys would direct those workflows, inspect the supporting sources and steps, and review and approve the resulting work.
Maven is seeking funding to develop this broader platform and expand access beyond the initial 100 user seats.
